Top seed Hubert Hurkacz captures Marseille title

Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

Top-seeded Hubert Hurkacz of Poland fended off local favorite Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Sunday to capture his sixth ATP Tour title at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille, France.

Hurkacz overwhelmed the Frenchman with his serve, striking 19 aces and winning 93 percent (41 of 44) of the points on his first delivery.

Bonzi fought back and had an opportunity to extend the match, leading 6-5 in the second set. Hurkacz survived three set points to avoid the service break and force the tiebreak.

Hurkacz improved to 6-1 in tour-level finals and collected his second trophy on indoor hard courts, his first since September 2021 in Metz, France.

Rio Open

No. 2 seed Cameron Norrie of Great Britain battled back for a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 victory over top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the final at Rio de Janeiro.

Norrie tallied just three aces to Alcaraz’s four and committed five double faults — one more than the Spaniard — but was still able to secure his fifth ATP Tour title.

After claiming the opening set, Alcaraz looked poised to finish off Norrie when he went up 3-0 in the second, but the Briton won the next four games before taking two of the final three. Norrie then trailed 2-0 in the final set, but once again staged a rally to come out on top.
