Charlie McAvoy scored the overtime winner and goaltender Linus Ullmark made a franchise-record 54 saves as the league-leading Boston Bruins claimed a 4-3 road victory over the Calgary Flames and extended their winning streak to eight games.
Ullmark, with his team playing its third game in four nights, sparkled while facing 57 shots, the most the Bruins have allowed all season and most the Flames have registered. His save total was the second highest in the NHL this season.
McAvoy was on the spot when he finished a flurry with 4.3 seconds remaining in overtime. His fifth career overtime goal pulls him into a tie with Ray Bourque for the most by a defenseman in franchise history.
Dmitry Orlov scored twice in a three-point game while Pavel Zacha also scored for the Bruins. Jake DeBrusk and Patrice Bergeron both recorded a pair of assists. Blake Coleman, Dillon Dube and Jonathan Huberdeau replied for the Flames, who have lost three straight (0-1-2).
Panthers 4, Lightning 1
Eric Staal, Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen scored first-period goals as Florida broke Tampa Bay’s club-record 16-game home point streak.
Sergei Bobrovsky’s 29 saves helped him set a record for most NHL wins by a Russian goaltender (354). Anthony Duclair had an empty-net goal and Nick Cousins contributed two assists for the Panthers, who have alternated wins and losses over their past nine games.
Brayden Point had a power-play goal for the Lightning, and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 37 shots. Nikita Kucherov stretched his franchise-record home point streak to 20 games with an assist.
Canadiens 3, Sharks 1
Jake Allen made 37 saves for visiting Montreal in a win against San Jose.
Jesse Ylonen, Kaiden Guhle and Christian Dvorak scored third-period goals for the Canadiens, who have won three of four.
Jacob MacDonald scored his first goal of the season for the Sharks, who have lost six of seven, and Kaapo Kahkonen made 29 saves.
Coyotes 4, Blackhawks 1
Karel Vejmelka made 23 saves and Nick Schmaltz had a goal and an assist to lead Arizona over Chicago in Tempe, Ariz.
Schmaltz, who has scored 11 goals over his last 13 games, tied his career long with a goal in his fourth straight game. Travis Boyd, Barrett Hayton and Jack McBain also scored goals and Clayton Keller added a pair of assists for Arizona, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
Andreas Athanasiou scored for Chicago, which took its second straight loss to finish 2-2-0 on its Western road trip. Alex Stalock, playing his first game since sustaining a head injury on Jan. 14, finished with 29 saves for Chicago, which officially announced the trade of star Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers just a few hours before the start of the contest.
Penguins 3, Predators 1
Jason Zucker scored the go-ahead goal with 1:39 left as visiting Pittsburgh topped Nashville.
Zucker scored from near the bottom of the right circle on a shot that went in off goaltender Juuse Saros’ skate. Bryan Rust added an empty-netter with 6.4 seconds left. Sidney Crosby also scored for the Penguins, who won their third straight. Tristan Jarry made 24 saves.
Mark Jankowski scored for the Predators, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Saros made 31 saves.
Wild 2, Islanders 1 (SO)
Frederick Gaudreau scored the only goal in a shootout for Minnesota, which remained hot by edging New York in Saint Paul, Minn.
Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson and Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin turned back the first four shots of the shootout before Gaudreau deked several times and fired a shot that glanced off Sorokin’s glove and trickled into the right corner of the net. Gustavsson then stopped Kyle Palmieri’s attempt.
Gustavsson made 39 saves in regulation and overtime and Ryan Reaves scored in regulation as the Wild won for the sixth time in seven games (6-1-0). Josh Bailey scored for the Islanders.
Kings 6, Jets 5 (SO)
Anze Kopitar recorded his second-career four-goal game and Los Angeles rallied from three two-goal deficits to hand host Winnipeg another loss.
Los Angeles was down 5-3 after two periods when Kopitar scored on a slapper 1:26 into the third. The Kings tied it with 4:06 left in regulation when Gabriel Vilardi beat Connor Hellebuyck (32 saves). Adrian Kempe had the lone goal in the shootout for Los Angeles, which finished a 2-2-1 trip.
Josh Morrissey had a career-high four points with two goals and two assists while Kevin Stenlund also scored twice for the Jets, who have dropped four straight while mired in a 1-5-1 rut.
Senators 6, Red Wings 1
Tim Stutzle scored on a penalty shot, Austin Watson added two first-period goals and host Ottawa defeated Detroit for the second consecutive night.
Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux each contributed a goal and an assist. Brady Tkachuk also scored and Stutzle added two assists for Ottawa, which has won three straight.
After Detroit’s Dominik Kubalik opened the scoring, Ottawa took over the game with four goals scored four different ways — on a penalty shot, short-handed, at even strength and on the power play.
Kraken 5, Blues 3
Morgan Geekie scored twice as visiting Seattle snapped its three-game losing streak with a victory over St. Louis.
Jared McCann, Jamie Oleksiak and Brandon Tanev also scored for the Kraken. Eeli Tolvanen had three assists, Daniel Sprong had two assists and Martin Jones made 22 saves for Seattle.
Pavel Buchnevich and Robert Thomas had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who are winless (0-4-2) in their last six games. Brandon Saad also scored, and Jordan Binnington made 21 saves.
Blue Jackets 5, Sabres 3
Eric Robinson registered his first career hat trick and Elvis Merzlikins made 38 saves as Columbus won at Buffalo.
Boone Jenner had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, Kent Johnson scored and Nick Blankenburg had two assists. Columbus is on a three-game points streak (2-0-1).
Jack Quinn had a goal and an assist for the Sabres. Tage Thompson and JJ Peterka scored Buffalo’s other goals, and Craig Anderson stopped 31 of 35 shots.
