Chargers WR Keenan Allen misses practice

It seems like the hamstring injury that Keenan Allen has been dealing with since week one is still rearing its ugly head.

The Chargers receiver missed practice on Wednesday, and when asked about the injury, Chargers coach Brandon Staley called it “day-to-day.”

Last Wednesday, Allen was limited last week, and on Thursday, he walked out of practice. The hamstring seemed to have flared up on him. He injured it in the second quarter of the season’s first game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Allen has been missed so far this season by the offense. In the first quarter and a half, he played against Las Vegas he had four catches for 66 yards. The offense is completing 40 percent of their third downs compared to a little over 45 percent last year.

The Chargers offense will have to continue to wait until Allen is back 100 percent.

“We’re just going to make sure that we are careful,” Staley said on Monday.

Dustin Hopkins limited on Wednesday

The Chargers did add a new name to the injury report on Wednesday in kicker Dustin Hopkins. He has some soreness in his right quad. Staley said it was unrelated to the game.

There is a possibility that they could bring in a safety net just in case the injury doesn’t improve, but Staley said it would happen on Thursday.

It would be a blow to the team if he couldn’t play on Sunday. He has been a great midseason addition they made in 2021. This season Hopkins is 5 for 6 field goals, and 17 of his 19 kickoffs have been touchbacks.

He even had a tackle on his only kickoff being returned last Sunday in Houston.

“Dustin [Hopkins] has really earned his stripes in our locker room because he has that athlete vibe of a kicker,” Staley said. “I know that he’s not scared to mix it up [laughter]. He’s probably more eager than most. We would prefer it not to get there, but it’s good to know that you have an athlete back there.”
