Brooks Koepka takes 3-shot lead at LIV Orlando

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Brooks Koepka fired a 6-under-par 65 to take a three-shot lead after two rounds of LIV Golf Orlando on Saturday at windy Winter Garden, Fla.

Koepka moved to 12 under for the tournament, snagging the lead away from Sebastian Munoz, who followed his opening-round 62 with a 71 on Saturday. Munoz sits alone in second at 9 under.

Laurie Canter (second-round 66), Patrick Reed (67) and Mito Pereira (66) are four shots off the lead in a tie for third place. Another three players are tied for sixth at 7 under.

Koepka posted a clean round, carding six birdies. Munoz posted two bogeys in addition to his two birdies.

“The conditions were rough,” Munoz said. “I mean, the wind was completely different, holes were playing a lot longer. It was tough pins. Props to the guys that went low today because it wasn’t easy.”

One of those was Canter, who vaulted 11 spots up the leaderboard with a bogey-free round and five birdies.

“I hit a lot of really good shots,” Canter said. “The greens are tricky. They’re subtle. I missed a lot of putts high side yesterday, so tried to vary my line today, play a bit more direct, and I putted much better, which is good. I went bogey-free again, which is nice. Me and my caddie were laughing, we went the whole of last year without a bogey-free round, and now we’ve done it the last two days. Yeah, it’s been sort of fun to keep a bogey off the card so far.”

In the team competition, captain Koepka has his Smash GC team at 26 under, two shots ahead of Torque GC. Torque captain Joaquin Niemann shot a 68 on Saturday.

Canter and his Cleeks GC mates are in third place, five shots back.
