The Clippers are now 32-28 after the loss and have now loss five of their last six games. The Lakers move to 38-21 and have won six straight games..
Here are some takeaways from the Clippers loss to the Lakers:
Luka Magic continues
Luka Dončić was the star of stars on Sunday night helping the Lakers knockoff the Clippers.
Dončić filled the stat sheet with 29 points, nine assists and six rebounds. He shot 9-for-17 from the filed including 5-for-12 from 3.
Step back 3s, tough bank shots, no look passes and strong drives to the basketball led to some oohhs & aahhs throughout the night.
His play on the offensive end got the crowd excited but his play on the defensive end is what will continue to excite his teammates and coaches.
He got his hands on more than a few tip passes that led to Clipper turnovers. He had two steals on the night.
He has been the catalyst for the Lakers on their six-game winning streak.
Dončić helped close out the show with seven points in the fourth quarter.
Powell returns and leaves
Norman Powell was returning from injury to give the Clippers offense a much needed spark but it never materialized.
Powell started the game slow shooting just 1-for-5 in the first court for four points.
He had no impact the rest of the way as he left the game in the second quarter due to right hamstring soreness.
Powell is now dealing with another injury at a time the Clippers need him to get out of the funk they are in.
Though he didn’t light it up early you saw the offense instantly struggle once he left the floor. The team only scored 15 points in the second quarter to put them behind early.
Knecht makes it count for Lakers
The Lakers came into the game without three wings who contributes on a night-to-night basis for the teams.
Austin Reaves (calf), Rui Hachimura (left patellar tendinopathy) and Jordan Goodwin (ankle) were out in this big matchup between the crosstown rivals.
Los Angeles needed someone to step up in their absences and Dalton Knecht was the guy.
Knecht scored 19 points knocking down five 3s in the win.
The rookie out of Tennessee got it going early scoring eight points in the first quarter. He had a certain bounce to him knowing he would get extended minutes in the game.
Leonard gives the Clips some hope
A huge positive to take away for the Clippers even with the loss was the play of star forward Kawhi Leonard.
Leonard will be a key to any type of run the Clippers will make down the stretch and last night was a good sight to see.
Leonard played a season-high 40 minutes and scored 33 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.
He was very decisive with his moves and carried the Clippers offense most of the night.
If thew Clippers can get healthy around a healthy Leonard they will turn things around and be a team others will want to avoid come playoff time.
