LA28 unveils comprehensive venue plan for 2028 Olympic Games across Greater Los Angeles taken in Los Angeles (Olympics)

LOS ANGELES -- The organizers of the 2028 Olympic Games have released their most detailed venue plan to date, promising a dynamic and diverse celebration of sport that stretches across Los Angeles and its surrounding communities. The International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board approved the plan last week, clearing the way for LA28 to showcase its vision for hosting the Summer Games.

The new venue lineup, revealed by LA28 today, spans from iconic beaches to world-class stadiums, and even into film history — with Universal Studios set to serve as a competitive backdrop.

“We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games and today we’re proud to share the plan that will make it happen,” said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. “From the Venice Beach shoreline to the Sepulveda Basin, our venues reflect LA’s culture, diversity and love of sport.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the plan a citywide celebration: “This plan brings the Games to all corners of our city like never before. We’ll not only welcome the world to our neighborhoods, but we’ll also leave behind improvements that benefit Angelenos for generations — from local jobs to environmental upgrades.”

Highlights of the 2028 Olympic Venue Plan:

  • New Venues & Firsts: The Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area will host Olympic events for the first time, including 3x3 Basketball, Modern Pentathlon, BMX, and Skateboarding. Squash will debut as an Olympic sport on the Universal Studios Lot — using the famous Courthouse Square from films like Back to the Future as its setting.

  • Venice Beach Takes Center Stage: Triathlon, the Marathon, and Road Cycling will launch from Venice Beach, embracing LA’s coastal culture.

  • Dodger Stadium to Host Olympic Baseball: After hosting the 2024 World Series, the legendary ballpark will welcome Baseball back to the Olympic stage.

  • Cricket’s Return: Cricket (T20), returning to the Olympics after more than a century, will debut in Southern California at a specially built venue at the Pomona Fairgrounds.

  • Surf’s Up in San Clemente: Surfing will take place at Trestles Beach, known for its elite waves and competitive consistency.

  • Downtown Core Anchors Gymnastics and Boxing: Rhythmic Gymnastics will take place at the USC Sports Center, while Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline will be staged downtown. Boxing preliminaries will be held at the Peacock Theater, with finals in the Downtown Arena.

  • Long Beach Goes All-In: Beach Volleyball will move to Alamitos Beach, while nearby venues will host Target Shooting, Sport Climbing, Open Water Swimming, and Olympic newcomer Coastal Rowing.

  • Regional Impact: Other events will spread throughout Southern California:

    • Carson will host Archery.

    • Anaheim will welcome Volleyball to the Arena.

    • Equestrian returns to Santa Anita Park in Arcadia.

    • South El Monte will host Shotgun Shooting events.

With a focus on using existing venues and temporary structures, the LA28 plan reflects the Games’ commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and regional engagement.
