SAN DIEGO -- A dominant three-goal first half for San Diego FC leads to a controlled 3-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders as San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium home unbeaten record grows to four matches without a loss.

San Diego FC came into the Saturday night match against Seattle on 11 points gained from three victories, two draws and a loss in their first six MLS games played.

Last Saturday saw a historic first home victory for San Diego FC as they defeated their SoCal rival LAFC 3-2 with the goals coming from McVey, Valakari and Mighten.

Seattle Sounders were on the road last matchday as they drew 1-1 against the San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park.

The Sounders came into the match underperforming for their club standards as the two-time MLS Cup champions sat on six out of a possible 18 points off three draws, two losses and a single victory for the 2025 MLS season.

After dealing with a hamstring injury earlier in the season, San Diego FC's Mexican star and designated player Chucky Lozano returned to the starting XI against Seattle marking his first start since the March 1 inaugural home match.

It only took under 90 seconds for San Diego to go on top as a quick played short corner by midfielder Luca de la Torre to Chucky Lozano saw him dribble into the box and find midfielder Jeppe Tverskov open with a cutback pass.

Tverskov received the ball and placed a left-footed shot into the right bottom corner of the goal as San Diego held the early advantage at the 2-minute mark.

Captain of the San Diego side, Jeppe Tverskov opened up his 2025 MLS scoring tally with his first goal of the season and his first in the MLS.

Midfielder Aníbal Godoy extended the San Diego lead to 2-0 in the 41 minute.

Lozano opened up the attack, finding midfielder Anders Dreyer making the run in the attacking half. Dreyer waited to lay off a pass for Godoy arriving late into the box as he tucked a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner past Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

Another first for San Diego FC, as Aníbal Godoy scored his first goal for the club and the 2025 MLS season.

In the third minute of added time to the first 45 minutes, Lozano added a third goal of the half as a counterattack saw defender Jasper Löffelsend place a through ball pass in behind the Sounder defensive line into the path of Lozano.

Sounders’ goalkeeper Stefan Frei couldn’t get enough of a touch off Lozano’s one-on-one shot as the ball landed in the left side of the net for a 3-0 halftime score.

It was a moment that all San Diego FC fans were waiting for, as designated player Chucky Lozano netted his first goal for the club in front of the fans at Snapdragon Stadium.

San Diego goes back-to-back matches scoring three goals in the first half. Last Saturday they found the net three times in the first 45 minutes against LAFC.

The second half saw San Diego protect their lead taking a more defensive strategy pushing back their defensive line and pressure.

Although Seattle finished the match with a slim 53%-47% possession battle victory, the deeper San Diego backline prevented quality shots and player advantages for the Sounders as they were unable to find the net after 90 minutes played.

A four-save night by San Diego FC goalkeeper CJ dos Santos helped claim his third clean sheet of the season, previously recording the first two scoreless games in the opening two matches of the 2025 MLS season.

Chucky Lozano saw his breakout night for the club end at the 67-minute mark as he was replaced by forward Alex Mighten with the club monitoring and managing his return after injury.

An impressive performance for Lozano taking home man of the match against the Sounders for his three-goal contribution night with his two assists creating the 2-0 advantage as netted in the third and final goal of the match.

“It’s a beautiful sensation,” Forward Chucky Lozano said on his first goal for the club and his return to the starting XI. “I was happy to get a goal for me.”

“Unfortunately, I got hurt in the second match and I am now back and I was able to start,” Lozano said. “I feel great and I was able to score my first goal and I am grateful to my teammates for the opportunities created.”

San Diego head coach Mikey Varas spoke at the post-match press conference on the squad’s performance and result against the Seattle Sounders.

“Proud of the boys,” Varas said. “I think we're taking good steps. 3-0 against a good team is never easy. You have to find moments in the game where you have to dig deep and we had to do that at times. But at the end of the day, we showed a collective effort.”

“These guys inspire me every single day,” Varas said. “The conviction for the style of play is just so apparent.”

After seven matches played, San Diego FC sees themselves in second place in the MLS Western Conference standings earning 14 points off four wins, two draws with only tasting defeat once.

That single defeat came off a 2-1 road result against Austin FC, San Diego improved their home Snapdragon Stadium record to two victories and two draws extending their home unbeaten streak to four matches.

“Just want to thank the fans,” Varas said on the San Diego FC fan involvement and impact. “The fans here are just growing and growing in their energy, it’s fantastic.”

“My message has been the same from the beginning, we're always going to give everything,” Varas said. “It's not perfect, but we're working really hard and one of our main goals is to be a reflection of the community and make sure that we make you all proud.”

After back-to-back matches at Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego FC hit the road for a pair of away matches. The first and next match is on Saturday, April 12 as they visit DSG Park to face the Colorado Rapids at 6:30 p.m.
