LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) has strengthened its attacking lineup with the addition of Turkish international Cengiz Ünder. The club has secured Ünder on loan from Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe through June 30, with an option to make the move permanent. The 27-year-old midfielder will occupy an international roster slot and will officially join the team upon receiving his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa.
“Cengiz is a top-quality player with experience at the highest levels of international competition,” LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said. “He has proven himself in some of the best leagues in the world and his attacking abilities will contribute to our success in 2025.”
Expressing his excitement about the move, Ünder highlighted LAFC's diverse community and the welcoming nature of the club’s supporters. "I am looking forward to playing in front of the Los Angeles fans and embracing the inclusive culture of this club," Ünder said.
"L.A. is a city rich in diversity, and LAFC has a multicultural fan base, including many Armenians. Football is a unifying sport, and I have experienced that throughout my career, having played in England, Italy, and France. I have shared my joys and struggles with teammates, fans, and communities of various backgrounds, and I will continue to do so in Los Angeles. I know our fans appreciate the power of sports in bringing people together, and I hope we can embrace one another as I begin this new chapter."
Ünder arrives at LAFC after a solid stint with Fenerbahçe, where he contributed nine goals and three assists in league play. He made 27 league appearances, starting in 14 of those matches. Across all competitions, he featured in 42 games, including key starts in the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, and the Turkish Cup, playing a vital role for the 28-time Turkish champions.
As LAFC prepares to kick off its MLS campaign against Minnesota United at BMO Stadium on Saturday, it remains uncertain whether Ünder will be available for selection. However, his arrival provides the Black & Gold with another high-caliber attacking option as they set their sights on another strong season in Major League Soccer.
