LAS VEGAS -- The Vegas Golden Knights overcame a slow start and scored three goals in the first period in a 6-2 victory against the Seattle Kraken at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.
Mark Stone had a goal and two assists. Brett Howden and Keegan Kolesar each had a goal and an assist, while Jack Eichel had two assists for Vegas (22-8-3). Ilya Samsonov made 20 saves.
“We're doing a good job right now,” Vegas defenseman Nicolas Hague said. “There's obviously still stuff we can clean up, but it's nice to be coming on the right side of these games.”
How The Goals Were scored
Vince Dunn gave the Kraken a 1-0 lead at 2:34 of the first period while on the power play.
Kolesar leveled the game at one at 12:39 after Victor Olofsson found him on a seam pass. Then 71 seconds later, Howden gave the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead. Eichel won the draw, won a puck battle below the goal line, and passed it to Howden, who one-timed in.
Hague scored the final goal of the first period with a wrist shot from above the left circle at 13:50.
“The chances were fairly even in the first period, even though we're up 3-1. I thought our [goalie] was a little better than their guy in the first period,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “So let's not get ahead of ourselves as a team and think we're outplaying this team or not. We've just gotten a couple extra saves, and then they got a lot of saves in the second period, so I thought both goaltenders were pretty good, and then the third period kind of is what it is.”
William Karlsson tipped in a Kolesar pass between his legs at 8:09 of the third period.
Noah Hanifin extended it to 5-1 with a one-timer from a Stone pass.
Jaden Schwartz cut the lead to 5-2 at 13:58 with a rebound goal on the power play.
Stone added an empty-net goal at 18:49 to round out the scoring.
