Marco Reus Scores his first LA Galaxy Goal

CARSON, Calif. -- Marco Reus made an immediate impact in his MLS debut, recording a goal and an assist as a second-half substitute as the LA Galaxy secured a 2-0 victory over Atlanta United on Saturday night.

Joining the Galaxy from Borussia Dortmund, Reus entered the match in the 62nd minute and immediately got to work.

Reus set up Riqui Puig's opening goal in the 76th minute and then scored himself in the 84th, converting a rebound after his initial shot was saved.

“I missed the first shot, honestly I was a little bit dead after a couple minutes because it was my first match in more than 2 months,” Reus said.

The win extended the Galaxy's unbeaten streak at DHSP to eight games and solidified their position atop the Western Conference standings. With 52 points (15-5-7), the Galaxy now hold a five-point lead over second-place LAFC.

The victory also marked the Galaxy's 400th all-time MLS regular-season win, a league record.

Puig’s goal, his ninth of the season and third in as many games, broke the deadlock and paved the way for the Galaxy's third consecutive league victory.

His new running mate in the midfield had high praise for Puig’s ability.

“When Riqui and (I are) on the field you can see the connection is there,” Reus said. “I gave him an easy assist and I was really, really happy for him and the team”

For Atlanta (7-12-7, 28 points), goalkeeper Brad Guzan made six saves, including a penalty stop in the 67th minute. However, he was unable to prevent the Galaxy from finding the net twice in the second half.

Reus' debut highlighted the Galaxy's polished attacking play, as he combined seamlessly with his new teammates to deliver the match-winning performance.

Like many of those that live in and near Los Angeles, Reus only has one complaint about his new city.

“Besides the traffic, everything is amazing.”
