SAN DIEGO — San Diego Wave defeated Houston Dash 1-0 on Sunday thanks to a goal by Jaedyn Shaw, which put the Wave in first place in the NWSL standings.

Here are three takeaways from the game:

Shots Taken

In Sunday’s action, the Wave totaled a whopping 32 shots, with 12 being on target. This represents the level of play that was happening with the Wave totally dominating the action. The only negative is that the amount of shots only resulted in one goal for the team which was off the foot of the 18-year-old Jaedyn Shaw.

At Full Strength

The level of play has significantly improved since July when the team was without their top two players Naomi Girma and Alex Morgan. Since their return from the World Cup, it has propelled the team into first place in the NWSL.

Looking Ahead

With only four games left in the season, the Wave will look for a strong seed to help them in a playoff push. The fans have played a huge part in the team’s success with tonight’s attendance amounting to 25,000. Saturday, September 16 is the next game where the Wave will play the Kansas City Current at Snapdragon Stadium.
