UFC Apex in Las Vegas to host WWE’s NXT Battleground

UFC
WWE and UFC will stage the first of what could be many co-branded events.

LAS VEGAS — WWE, in partnership with the UFC, has announced that NXT Battleground will take place at the UFC Apex on June 9 in Las Vegas.

This will mark the first WWE event that will be hosted at the 130,000-square foot production facility, home of UFC Fight Night events, Dana White’s Contender Series and more.

“We are always exploring new frontiers to showcase NXT and we are excited to bring Battleground to this world-class production facility in partnership with UFC,” said WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels

Last year, Endeavor and the WWE announced the closing of a merger between the mixed martial arts and professional wrestling promotions to create TKO with both UFC and WWE under the same umbrella. Since the merger there has been some minimal crossover between UFC and WWE, but this will be the biggest with a UFC venue hosting a WWE event.

NXT Battleground was scheduled for May 26 in Savannah Georgia, going head-to-head with rival AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV from Las Vegas. The move means AEW’s Double or Nothing will be followed by NXT Battleground in Las Vegas.

UFC Apex holds about 500 people for UFC events but the Las Vegas Review-Journal cited that the UFC applied to the Nevada Athletic Commission to host up to 1,000 for events along with food and alcohol service, ticket sales and a merchandise shop.

Will Las Vegas being the host for WrestleMania 41 be the next major WWE Las Vegas announcement? Only time will tell.
