Report: Lakers star Anthony Davis (foot) likely to have MRI

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis was removed from Friday’s 126-108 victory against the visiting Denver Nuggets with a right foot injury.

The Lakers star will likely undergo an MRI for further evaluation, per an ESPN report.

Davis appeared to come away with the injury on a layup attempt in the first quarter, but continued to play despite obvious discomfort.

Davis played 17 minutes in the first half, including eight in the second quarter, but did not return to the court after halftime and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. He had 10 points with four rebounds and one blocked shot.

Davis, 29, entered Friday’s contest averaging 28.1 points and 12.4 rebounds per game. The eight-time All-Star has missed three games this season, playing through lower back discomfort early in the schedule.

Entering Friday, Davis averaged 24.0 points with 10.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots in 628 games over 11 NBA seasons for the New Orleans Pelicans (2012-19) and Lakers.
