Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

Midfielder Addie McCain and the Chicago Red Stars agreed to a two-year deal with a one-year option on Monday.

Financial terms of the contract were not released.

Chicago acquired McCain’s playing rights after claiming her off waivers. She appeared in 10 matches for the Kansas City Current during the 2022 NWSL regular season, starting in three of them.

“Addie is a young and talented player,” Red Stars head coach Chris Petrucelli said. “She has the ability to both score and create goals. We’re looking forward to her joining our team.”

McCain, 23, was the 17th overall pick in the 2021 draft after scoring 16 goals in 77 games through four seasons (2017-20) at Texas A&M, where she was named Southeastern Conference Midfielder of the Year in 2020.

“I am very excited about my opportunity to join the Red Stars. I have the utmost respect for Coach Petrucelli and the coaching staff,” McCain said. “I know the Red Stars organization are doing great things to build a world class organization in the city of Chicago. I am looking forward to this next phase in my career and playing alongside some of the best players in the league.”
