Paul George injured as Clippers lose to Thunder, 101-100

Kawhi Leonard failed to get a shot off before the buzzer as Oklahoma City moves to .500 mark.

LOS ANGELES – The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Clippers, 101-100, Tuesday but it was hardly the Clippers’ biggest loss of the night.

In the fourth quarter of the game, Paul George went down with a leg injury and had to be carried into the locker room. The extent of the injury was not known after the game but it is feared that he could be lost for the regular season.

George went down after fighting with Luguentz Dort for a rebound. George twisted his knee and immediately fell to the floor before being assisted off the court minutes later.

“Next man up,” said Kawhi Leonard on how the team would adjust without George. “I mean, we’ll see. We got a group of guys that still want to win, that like to play basketball. So, we’ll see what happens.”

Before exiting George collected 18 points, seven boards and five assists in 35 minutes.

How it happened: The Clippers went on a 6-0 run before a Lu Dort dunk in the first quarter. The Thunder responded with a 19-4 run and just like that Los Angeles turned a 14-point lead into a one-point deficit at the end of the first. Back-to-back threes from Jaylin Williams gave the Thunder a 47-45 lead in the second.  After ending the half down 56-51, the Clippers used a 7-2 run to erase the Thunder’s lead. An exit from George and a failed coach’s challenge sealed the Clippers’ fate in the fourth quarter and Los Angeles lost, 101-100.

What it means: The Clippers drop to 38-35 to remain the fifth seed in the Western Conference, one game ahead of the sixth seeded Golden State Warriors. The gap between the Clippers and the fourth seeded Phoenix Suns extended to one game with the loss.

Hits: Leonard led the Clippers in scoring with 21 points and collected six rebounds, five assists and two steals in 45 minutes of action. Russell Westbrook scored 15 points and picked up 8 rebounds.

Misses: Terance Mann exited the game with four minutes left in the second quarter after picking up two quick technical fouls.

Stat of the game: The Clippers outscored the Thunder in both fast break points,12-2 and points in the paint, 60-54.

Up next: The Clippers will have a chance to escape a series sweep from the Thunder on Thursday. The Clippers will face Oklahoma City for the fourth and final regular season game between the two teams.
