Jordan Poole scored 25 points off the bench to lead a balanced attack as the Golden State Warriors emphatically snapped a three-game losing streak and spoiled San Antonio’s party with a 144-113 victory on Friday in a game played in the Alamodome, the Spurs’ home from 1993-2002.
Attendance was announced as 68,323, an all-time record crowd for an NBA regular-season contest. The attendance eclipsed the previous league regular-season record of 62,046 that watched the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks play in 1998 in the Georgia Dome.
Through three quarters, Golden State converted 58.7 percent of its field goals, including 17 of 36 from beyond the arc. That performance allowed the Warriors to rest starters Stephen Curry (15 points) and Klay Thompson (16) in the fourth quarter as Golden State easily won the first of a five-game road trip. Eight of the 10 Warriors’ players who saw the court scored at least 12 points. Donte DiVincenzo led the team with 22 points.
Tre Jones paced San Antonio with 21 points, with Keldon Johnson scoring 17, Doug McDermott adding 14, Malaki Branham 12 and Romeo Langford 11. The Spurs have dropped four straight games and seven of their last eight.
Thunder 124, Bulls 110
Josh Giddey tied a season high with 25 points and added 10 rebounds and six assists to lead Oklahoma City to a win at Chicago.
The Thunder have won five of their last seven, averaging more than 125 points per game during that stretch. The Bulls have lost three consecutive games.
Jalen Williams scored 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 21 for the Thunder. Zach LaVine led the Bulls with 25 points, and Coby White and Nikola Vucevic had 19 points each. Vucevic grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Pelicans 116, Pistons 110
Jonas Valanciunas powered for 33 points and 16 rebounds and visiting New Orleans held off Detroit.
CJ McCollum supplied 19 points and nine assists and Trey Murphy III also had 19 points for the Pelicans, who had lost five of their previous seven games. Naji Marshall added 17 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Bojan Bogdanovic led Detroit with 22 points. Saddiq Bey had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Hamidou Diallo contributed 19 points and seven rebounds. Killian Hayes added 17 points and six assists and Jaden Ivey chipped in 12 points and six assists.
Hawks 113, Pacers 111
John Collins scored on a tip-in with 0.7 seconds remaining to give visiting Atlanta a win over Indiana. Atlanta’s Dejounte Murray missed a 16-foot jumper with 1.1 seconds left, but Collins was able to tap it in for the go-ahead basket.
Hawks point guard Trae Young returned after missing one game with a non-COVID illness. He posted 26 points and 11 assists, his 19th double-double of the season, and surpassed the 1,000-point mark. De’Andre Hunter matched his season high with 25 points, including six 3-pointers, and Onyeka Okongwu scored 18 points and had a career-high 20 rebounds and four blocks.
Indiana was led by Bennedict Mathurin with 26 points, his second straight 20-point game. Hield added 18 points, including five treys, five assists and three steals.
Knicks 112, Wizards 108
Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle remained hot for visiting New York, which frittered away most of a 15-point fourth-quarter lead before hanging on to beat Washington.
Brunson scored 34 points — the fourth time in the last five games he has scored at least 30 points, and his ninth 30-point effort of the season. Randle (23 points, 16 rebounds) recorded a double-double for the 15th time in the last 16 games. Immanuel Quickley had 18 points off the bench, while starter RJ Barrett added 17 points for the Knicks, who have won six of seven.
The Wizards’ Kyle Kuzma scored 40 points — one shy of his career high — and Kristaps Porzingis had 21 points after missing Wednesday’s win over the Chicago Bulls with a right rib injury. Corey Kispert added 13 points as Washington played a fourth straight game without leading scorer Bradley Beal, who is sidelined with a strained left hamstring.
Jazz 112, Magic 108
Lauri Markkanen scored 28 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made a key defensive play to lift Utah over Orlando in Salt Lake City.
Jordan Clarkson added 23 points and 12 rebounds, and rookie Walker Kessler totaled 13 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots in the victory. Franz Wagner led Orlando with 26 points, while rookie Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr. each scored 19.
The Magic rallied from seven points down in the final four minutes to briefly take the lead before the Jazz closed out their second win in a row, marking the first time in nearly four weeks that they earned consecutive wins.
Timberwolves 121, Suns 116
Anthony Edwards collected 31 points and six rebounds to lift Minnesota to a victory over Phoenix in Minneapolis.
D’Angelo Russell scored 17 points and Taurean Prince contributed 16 off the bench for the Timberwolves, who made 52.2 percent of their shots from the floor (47 of 90). Jaden McDaniels recorded 14 points and six assists and Naz Reid had 13 points and six rebounds. Kyle Anderson added 10 points in his return from a non-COVID illness.
Damion Lee made six 3-pointers to highlight his 31-point performance for the Suns, who shot 60.9 percent from beyond the arc (14 of 23). Phoenix, however, committed 19 turnovers and lost for the 11th time in its last 13 games. Mikal Bridges scored 24 points for the Suns and Deandre Ayton added 11 on 5-of-18 shooting from the floor in his return from a two-game absence due to a left ankle sprain.
Kings 139, Rockets 114
Domantas Sabonis recorded his fourth triple-double of the season, Terence Davis fueled a third-quarter flurry with consecutive 3-pointers and Sacramento made it two wins over visiting Houston in three days.
Sabonis, who missed a triple-double by one assist in Wednesday’s 135-115 victory in the opener of the two-game, same-site set, put up a career-best 16 assists this time around to complement 19 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in Sacramento’s third straight win.
Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr. each scored 27 points for the Rockets, who lost their ninth straight.
Nuggets 115, Clippers 103
Jamal Murray recorded 24 points and eight rebounds and Denver thrived despite the absence of Nikola Jokic to defeat host Los Angeles for its fifth straight win and 15th in 18 games.
Michael Porter Jr. scored 22 points and Aaron Gordon added 17 for the Nuggets. Jokic, the two-time reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, sat out due to a wrist injury on a night when the Nuggets took over sole possession of first place in the Western Conference.
Kawhi Leonard registered 24 points and eight rebounds but couldn’t prevent Los Angeles from losing for the seventh time in the past eight games. Norman Powell had 18 points. The Clippers were again without Paul George (hamstring) and Luke Kennard (calf).
