LAFC settles for 1-1 draw against Sporting KC

Despite an early goal from Denis Bouanga, LAFC settled for a 1-1 draw against Sporting KC Wednesday night.

Everything was going according to plan for LAFC for the first 20 minutes of Wednesday’s game against Sporting KC. Until it wasn’t.

Despite scoring an early goal, LAFC would settle for a 1-1 draw at home against Sporting KC Wednesday night.

The MLS’s leading goal-scorer continued his terrorizing scoring run since when Denis Bouanga, scored to put LAFC ahead, 1-0, in the 13th. Bouanga now has nine goals for the season, with seven coming in five home games.

After Bouanga’s early goal it looked like it would be another LAFC rout of an MLS opponent, especially after a convincing 3-0 win over Real Salt Lake over the weekend, but Johnny Russell had other plans.

Russell scored the equalizer off his left foot that slipped right under LAFC’s keeper, Eldin Jakupovic in the 20th minute.

Both sides would continue to trade shots for the remainder of the night but neither would be able to find the back of the net.

LAFC was in control for a majority of the match, doubling Kansas City’s shots on target and owning nearly 60% of the possession, but just could not break through.

The result keeps LAFC in second place in the Western Conference while the draw combined with the Galaxy’s loss to Columbus Crew earlier Wednesday evening puts Sporting KC in 13th place.

Next, LAFC will play host to the only team that has beaten them in MLS play this season, the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
