LA Galaxy triumph against Houston Dynamo and end 5-match winless streak with goals from Gabriel Pec and Riqui Puig.

CARSON, Calif. — Goals from Gabriel Pec and Riqui Puig helped the LA Galaxy snap a five-match winless streak Friday night as they came from behind and defeated the Houston Dynamo, 2-1 in front of a crowd of 21,700.

In addition to registering his own goal, Pec assisted in Puig’s go-ahead goal while Miki Yamane collected his first assist in league play during Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Night.

The Dynamo took an early lead in the 18th minute when midfielder Latif Blessing capitalized on an error from the Galaxy goalkeeper John McCarthy during a lazy pass hitting the ball into the back of the net.

“I thought we struggled in the first half and that sets the tempo for the rest of the game,” Galaxy goach Greg Vanney said. “We couldn’t get pressure on the ball, we couldn’t win the ball and we were starting our attacks in bad places and I thought we just behind everything.”

Despite the slow start, LA Galaxy were able to equalize just before the half when in the 44th minute, Yamane cut back to evade a defender and sent a chip to Gabriel Pec, whose resulting header reached the inside of the far post. It was his fourth goal of the season.

“He wasn’t just receiving the balls at his feel standing,” Vanney said. “He was receiving while he was on the move or he’s being more active or in transition when he’s able to get behind and use some of his power and speed. And then from that you see some more of his qualities come out.”

LA scored the winning goal in the 59th minute when a long run by Gaston Brugman set up Pec, who tapped the ball towards Puig for the final blow.

With the result, LA Galaxy leapfrog their city rivals, LAFC, into third place. They have a midweek game Wednesday home against FC Dallas, followed by a Saturday game on the road against Chicago Fire.
