Kings lose again, fall to Avalanche, 5-1

The season is starting to slip away for the Kings.

More of the same for the Kings on Friday: a loss. This time, it was to the Colorado Avalanche, 5-1, as they have lost three straight games and only won two of their last 15. Various issues have marked their struggles during such a stretch. It was an all-around effort against the Avalanche, starting with the goalkeeping.

Cam Talbot made his 30th start of the season. The all-star goaltender gave up three goals in the first period, a disastrous one for the Kings.

David Rittich began the second period, but the hole was too deep. The Avalanche matched the Kings with one goal in the period. Kevin Fiala got the Kings’s goal. He stayed ready on the power play and put away a shot immediately after receiving it.

In total, Rittich stopped 17 of 19 shots. Talbot made nine saves and allowed three goals.

On special teams, the Kings scored one goal on five power plays and allowed one goal on four Avalanche power plays.

Not much went the Kings’s way on Friday. Next, they play the St. Louis Blues on Sunday, hoping to turn around their season around before it slips away.
