Chargers versus Dolphins prediction and breakdown

Mike Williams could be in for a big game like in 2022 against the Dolphins secondary.

Dolphins (0-0) AT Chargers (0-0)

When: Sunday, 1:25 p.m.

Where: SoFi Stadium

TV/Radio: CBS; 98.7 FM; 105.5 FM/94.3 FM (Spanish)

Line: Chargers by 3 points

Notable injury designations: Chargers:  Doubtful: LB Daiyan Henley (hamstring), Edge Chris Rumph (hamstring)

Dolphins: OUT: T Terron Armstead (back/knee/ankle), DB Elijah Campbell (knee). Questionable: CB Justin Bethel (knee), TE Julian Hill (ankle)

What’s at stake? For both teams to start off the gate with a big victory over a conference rival that you know will be there at the end fighting for a playoff spot.

Who’s better? Hard to say because both teams have made changes on the coaching side of things. Dolphins defensive coordinator will bring a new element to their defense while Kellen Moore bring a different one to the Chargers. Stalemate.

Matchup to watch: J.C. Jackson vs. any Dolphins receiver. Jackson is the big mystery going into this game. He took part in almost all of training camp and was growing more and more comfortable in the defensive scheme. Is he ready to be Mr. INT again? This game will be telling.

Chargers win if: They can run the ball efficiently, slow down Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and protect Justin Herbert. Simple, right?

Fantasy sleeper: Mike Williams. The Dolphins secondary doesn’t have cornerback Jalen Ramsey, so they could be vulnerable. Williams did a number on them last season with six catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. Expect more of the same on Sunday.

Prediction: The back end of the Chargers schedule is difficult and Joey Bosa said they need to start the season off on the right foot. They will do that with a 30-27 victory over the Dolphins.
