Chargers versus Broncos break down and prediction

The Chargers may have their hands full with a Broncos team that is pushing for a playoff spot.

Broncos (6-6) at Chargers (5-7)

When: Sunday, 1:25 p.m.

Where: SoFi Stadium

TV/Radio: CBS; 98.7 FM; 105.5 FM/94.3 FM (Spanish)

Line: Chargers by -2.5

Notable injury designations:

Chargers: Out: G/T Zack Bailey (back), CB Deane Leonard (heel), WR Joshua Palmer (knee). Questionable: DL Otito Ogbonnia (knee), LB Amen Ogbongbemiga (hamstring),

Broncos: Questionable: RB Same Perine (knee)

What’s at stake? For the Chargers, their playoff chances hang in the balance and with so much competition for those wild card spots it is a must win. For the Broncos, same thing as the Chargers but they also sit two games behind the struggling Chiefs. If KC loses and Denver wins they sit one game behind them.

Who’s better? Very, Very, Very hard question, but edge to Denver because they have been more consistent as of late.

Matchup to watch: Chargers running game vs. Broncos defense. The run game has been almost non-existent, so Brandon Staley said they may give other backs a chance like he did with the secondary. They need running back contribution.

Chargers win if: Keenan Allen isn’t the only offensive player putting up numbers. On defense, Khalil Mack needs another multi-sack performance.

Fantasy sleeper: Quentin Johnston. Allen maybe shadowed by Patrick Surtain, so look for the Chargers rookie receiver to be involved.

Prediction: Until the Chargers prove otherwise, it is hard to see them putting together a complete game. They have been too inconsistent and Denver has put up solid wins against quality opponents. Broncos 24 Chargers 21.
