Chargers rule out WR Keenan Allen for ‘TNF’ vs. Chiefs

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers, as expected, ruled out wide receiver Keenan Allen for Thursday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs but left the door open on cornerback J.C. Jackson making his team debut.

Backup tight end Donald Parham Jr. (hamstring) has also been ruled out.

Allen was never going to suit up against the Chiefs. The bigger question is if he’ll be able to return for Week 3 after injuring his hamstring in Week 1’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The team hopes the added rest between Thursday and Sept. 25 will give Allen enough time to recover.

Allen sat out the second half against the Raiders. He had four catches for 66 yards.

Jackson missed Week 1, still recovering from minor ankle surgery on Aug. 24. He was limited in practice, however that’s an estimate since the team held walkthroughs Tuesday and Wednesday. He’s listed as questionable to play.

Jackson is entering his first season with the Chargers after being a standout cover corner for the New England Patriots.

Jackson made 25 interceptions (returning one for a touchdown) in 62 games over four seasons with the Patriots before signing a five-year, $82.5 million deal with the Chargers as a free agent during the offseason.
