Chargers grades after loss to Titans

The Titans took it to the Chargers and made the plays needed to win the game.

The Chargers are starting the season 0-2 after Nick Folk made a 41-yard field goal to secure the win for the Tennessee Titans.

Offensively they stalled four times toward the end of the game and couldn’t score a touchdown when they needed it. The defense still has issues.

Here are the grades after the loss:

Quarterback: C+

Justin Herbert didn’t turn the ball over and made some good plays. The last drive wasn’t pretty.

Running back: F

No Austin Ekeler means no run game. Titans are good against the run but there was no run game.

Receivers: C+

Keenan Allen and Mike Williams had strong games but the fact that they didn’t win the grade can’t be higher. Josh Palmer and Quentin Johnston need to have a role.

Tight ends: C-

They have been blocking well but haven’t really established themselves consistently in the passing game. Stone Smartt and Gerald Everett had nice catches.

Offensive line: D

Herbert had pressure all game long and the Harold Landry sack on third down toward the end of regulation was costly.

Defensive line: C

They did a better job against Derrick Henry but plus Morgan Fox had a sack, but they need to be better.

Edge Rushers: C+

Tuli Tuipulotu might be a playmaker for this team. Joey Bosa in a limited role generated two sacks.

Linebackers: C

Kenneth Murray had a big sack and probably his best game in a while. No Eric Kendricks hurt them.

Secondary: F

Only four incompletions for Ryan Tannehill is not ideal. Big plays to Treylon Burks and Chris Moore hurt.

Coaching: F

Bad play calling on offense when it mattered most. The defense can’t stop offenses when it matters most.

Next opportunity: F

Minnesota is also 0-2 but they have a great receiving duo in Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison that could have big games against this secondary.
