Chargers designate OLB Joey Bosa to return from IR

Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa will practice on Thursday.

The Chargers announced Thursday morning that edge rusher Joey Bosa has been designated to return from IR by having a video of Cell from Dragonball Z looking at the news and laughing.

That means Bosa will return to practice on Thursday and has a 21-day window to be activated to the main roster. Right now, he doesn’t count toward the 53-man roster.

He could practice the next two days, and if the team feels he is ready to go, he could be activated on Saturday to play Sunday against the Rams.

The defense has been playing at a high level for the last three weeks against Miami, Tennessee, and Indianapolis. They have sacked the quarterback 13 times, taken the ball away four times, and allowed their opponent only 19% on third down conversions.

They are getting Bosa back at the right time.

The Chargers will get their pass rush duo back in Bosa and Khalil Mack. The former Bears pass rusher has held it down since Bosa went down in week three with the groin injury sacking the opposing quarterback eight times.

Veteran linebacker Kyle Van Noy has come into his own, being disruptive against the run and having a sack in each of the last three games. He took over opposite Mack when Bosa went down with the injury.

Now that the Chargers have taken care of business and clinched a wild-card berth, Bosa can ease in. He has two weeks to get into football shape before the playoffs start.

Being “in shape” and Bosa go together like peanut butter and jelly, so he will get up to speed quickly.
