LOS ANGELES — When forward Sydney Leroux returned to the field following an ankle injury that sidelined her for 311 days, the crowd at BMO Stadium roared. And when she scored in her first game back, the fans’ excitement only increased.

In 2024, the Angel City fans will have more to cheer about as the club exercised their option to extend Leroux’s contract through Dec. of 2024.

“I am so excited to continue my career with Angel City,” Leroux said. “Los Angeles has truly become home for me and my family, and I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else. The community the club has built is incredible, and I look forward to playing many more games in front of the best fans in the NWSL.”

Leroux joined the Angel City via trade from the Orlando Pride in 2022 and has appeared in 13 NWSL matches, scoring one goal. Her 2022 season was cut short due to an ankle injury, but she has played a significant role since returning in 2023.

“We are so happy that Sydney [Leroux] is continuing her tenure with Angel City,” said Angel City general manager Angela Hucles Mangano. “The passionate way she plays brings such an exciting element to our squad, in addition to her veteran leadership. She leaves everything out on the field every time she plays.”

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a long professional career since playing at UCLA from 2008 to 2011. She has played for multiple professional clubs and the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT).
