Aces hit century mark to take down Chicago Sky, 107-95

The Las Vegas Aces improve to 22-2 on the season after defeating the Sky.

After losing Candace Parker indefinitely due to injury the Aces came out and defeated the Chicago Sky 107-95.

Kelsey Plum led the Aces with 27 points, A’ja Wilson had 24 points, Chelsea Gray added 22 points and Jackie Young had 15.

Kahleah Copper led the Sky with 37 points, followed by Elizabeth Williams with 12 points, Courtney Williams and Marina Mabrey finished with 11 points each.

Wilson got the Aces off to a fast start, scoring 13 points in the opening quarter while shooting 6-8 from the field. At the half the Aces had a 10 point lead on 51% shooting from the field and 50% from the three point line. In the second half the Aces kept their foot on the gas outscoring the the Sky in the half and keeping up their hot shooting. Las Vegas won the game by 12 points, snapping a five-game streak of 15 point or more wins.

Here are three takeaways from the game:

A’ja Wilson vs Kahleah Copper

Both stars shined in the first half leading the way for their teams at the break. A’ja Wilson was all over the place in the first half finishing the shooting 7-10 with 15 points. Wilson also made a big effect on the defensive end, finishing the half with two blocks and two steals. Mid way through the third quarter foul trouble would send Wilson to the bench. That would be the only way to slow down A’ja Wilson as she would end the game with 24 points 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks.

As for the Sky Kahleah Copper huge for them finishing the first half with 22 points on 7-10 shooting form the field. Copper was a difficult cover for the Aces all night, getting in by driving and also hitting down the three. Copper finished with 37 points on 12-18 shooting and 4-7 from three-point range.

Aces Depth is tested again

With Candace Parker out indefinitely the Aces depth is going to be challenged. Off the bench, Alysha Clark and Kierstan Bell made significant contributions for the Aces today. Bell finished the game with 5 points and Alysha Clark with 8 points. Late in the third quarter Alysha Clark took a shot to face and would not return to the game. Kiah Stokes also played a significant role in stepping in for Candace Parker, finishing the game with 6 points and 17 rebounds.

Three Aces score 20 +

Three Aces scored more than 20 points, with Kelsey Plum leading the way with 27. Chelsea Gray had 22 points and 9 assists in the contest. A’ja Wilson had 24 points, four blocked shots, and three steals. All three players scored 20 points on efficient shooting from the field all shooting over 40%.

The Aces will return home Sunday to take on the Dallas Wings with tip off set 3 p.m. PT.
