LA Galaxy sign German midfielder Erik Thommy to multi-year deal

LOS ANGELES — The LA Galaxy continued their aggressive offseason restructuring on Tuesday, announcing the signing of veteran free agent midfielder Erik Thommy to a contract through June 2027.

The 31-year-old German, most recently with Sporting Kansas City, joins on a guaranteed deal with a club option for the 2027-28 season. Thommy has recorded 19 goals and 10 assists in 101 MLS appearances since arriving in the league in 2022.

“Erik is a versatile player capable of playing multiple attacking positions,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Will Kuntz. “His vast experience across the German top-flight and Major League Soccer will be a great asset to our locker room and on the field.”

Thommy offers experience in both MLS and abroad, having played nine professional seasons for VfB Stuttgart in Germany’s Bundesliga before his move to MLS.

In adding Thommy, the Galaxy continue a clear offseason theme of acquiring versatile, experienced players who offer solutions at multiple positions, a strategy vital to managing the long-term loss of Riqui Puig. Thommy should be able to provide a boost in both central and wide attacking roles, an aspect of the attack that was missing for LA during most of 2025.

With several members of their 2024 MLS Cup-winning team still intact, the Galaxy have used this offseason to address specific needs: adding a physical striker , securing a promising young talent and now bolstering their midfield versatility and experience.

Following the high-profile acquisition of Brazilian forward João Klauss and the loan extension of young attacker Matheus Nascimento. The club also solidified its defense earlier this month by extending left back John Nelson.  Paired with the earlier defensive additions of Jakob Glesnes and Justin Haak, the moves signal a comprehensive push to build a squad capable of challenging for trophies.
