Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Tommy Edman is set to undergo surgery next week to address a persistent right ankle injury that has lingered since his time with the St. Louis Cardinals in mid-2024, the team confirmed Tuesday.
The injury, which flared up multiple times during the 2025 regular season and postseason, didn’t stop Edman from making a significant impact in his first year with Los Angeles. Despite the setback, he appeared in 97 games, hitting .225 with 13 home runs, 49 RBIs, and delivering several clutch performances that helped the Dodgers capture back-to-back World Series titles.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes discussed Edman’s situation during the annual GM Meetings in Las Vegas, praising the veteran’s toughness and leadership throughout the year.
Edman, 30, joined the Dodgers during the trade deadline of the 2024 season and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most versatile defenders, splitting time between second base, shortstop, and center field. His combination of athleticism and switch-hitting ability made him a valuable piece of the Dodgers’ depth-driven roster.
The upcoming procedure is expected to fully resolve the lingering issue that limited his mobility late in the year. The team will provide updates on his rehab progress during the offseason.
